FAQ

Recreation FAQ

Below are the answers to the most asked questions. If you have additional questions or can’t find an answer, please don’t hesitate to call or email us.

SHOULD MY CHILD PLAY IN THEIR GRADE?

Yes, we strongly recommend that players register and play within their school grade.

CAN I REQUEST A TEAMMATE OR COACH FOR MY CHILD?

Yes, and we’ll make every effort to accommodate that request, but it is not always possible. Teammate or coach requests can be made on the application when you apply.

I MISSED THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE, CAN I STILL REGISTER?

Yes, however once registration closes you will put you on a waiting list. If teams are in need of players, we will place those from waiting list and you will be notified.

HOW ARE YOUR TEAMS FORMED?

Our teams are formed through a variety of ways. Individual sign ups, existing teams (ie schools or local organizations), and those teams within HYSA that have played together for others seasons.

WHAT ARE THE CLUB'S RECREATION POLICIES?

Playing time: HYSA policy is that everyone will play at least 50% of the game. Player’s time is connected to practice and participation, if a player regularly misses practice, it will affect playtime.

Player rotation: All players should be encouraged to “rotate” positions including the goalkeeper. We want children to experience all positions and get a chance to develop all over the field.

Player Sharing: If one team has a full team and another has players missing, please share players and give your children as much playing time as possible.

Goal differential: Differentials of 3-4 goals, teams should start getting creative by limit touches, ten passes before shooting, shoot outside of the box only, moving players positions or playing a player or two down to challenge the winning team.

Score lines: No results are being recorded within HYSA Recreation Soccer, no league standings, or win/loss/tie records. Please don’t relate success of your team to how many games they win.

Consistent experience: As a club we want every child to have the same opportunities and experience throughout their years in the program. Therefore, we follow the club policies and the structure provided from the club professionals to ensure this. Balanced teams, exposure to different coaches is a goal to get to long term. Keeping our players having fun and growing the love of the game is paramount.

DO WE KEEP SCORE?

No. We do not keep the scores, league standings or team records.

WHAT’S PROVIDED WITH THE LEAGUE FEE?

A team jersey, insurance coverage also other expenses such as field maintenance, referees, staffing, equipment, etc. Trophies are up to the individual teams as the league does not provide trophies for every player.

WHAT ARE THE TSC HYSA RULES?

Our program guidelines are here.

ARE THERE GOALKEEPERS AT THE 4v4 LEVEL?

No, players cannot play goal. Players can defend but are not allowed to stand in front of the goal regardless of where the ball is in the field. Players are encouraged to attack and defend as a team.

CAN PLAYERS PLAY IN EARRINGS OR JEWELRY?

All items of jewelry (necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, leather bands, rubber bands, large hair bows etc.) are strictly forbidden and must be removed. Using tape to cover jewelry is not acceptable.

HOW DO WE FIND OUR GAME SCHEDULES?

Game schedules can be found at the SCHEDULE PAGE.

WHEN ARE PRACTICES?

Practices are set by the coach once he/she is assigned to a team. All practices will be Monday-Thursday.

HOW DO WE KNOW WHERE OUR GAME FIELDS ARE?

A field map can be found on our FIELDS page.

DO WE HELP COACHES WHO ARE NEW OR FEEL LESS EXPERIENCED?

Yes, we offer a list of coaches resources on our COACHES CORNER page, but more than that, we will spend time with you to help alleviate your coaching concerns.

DO WE MEET WITH COACHES BEFORE THE SEASON BEGINS?

Yes, we host a coaches meeting before each season.

HOW ARE THE SCHEDULES FORMED?

Our Director of Recreation will compile all teams, divisions, fields and create a game schedule.

WHAT SIZE BALL SHOULD MY CHILD BE PLAYING WITH?

It depends on their age. For this answer and other answers related to Rec Guidelines, team sizes, goal sizes, game length etc.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DOES I MY CHILD NEED?

Soccer cleats, a ball and shin guards are needed.

WHERE CAN I PURCHASE THE EQUIPMENT MY CHILD NEEDS?

You can find most soccer equipment at stores like We Got Soccer, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Academy Sports, Target, Walmart, etc. Each season we have a special day at Dick’s for which the give you 20% off of your purchases of these items.

CAN WE DONATE OUR USED CLEATS TO A FAMILY IN NEED?

Yes, we have a Cleat Exchange program. Old cleats can be donated at the concession stand and we will keep them available for families to trade out a pair.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE HAVE ADVERSE WEATHER?

Every precaution is taken to provide a safe environment for your child. We do not play if lightning is within 10 miles of the complex or until we’ve had no lightning strikes within 30 minutes in that 10 mile radius. Soccer activity will also be canceled if fields are too wet (standing water primarily). We will communicate cancellations via website, email, Facebook, Twitter. We will make every attempt to make up any games canceled due to weather. If a game has reached half time or beyond we will consider those games completed and will not be rescheduled.

IF I HAVE AN ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED, WHO CAN I CONTACT?

For most general recreational questions you can contact Coy Boazman our Director or Recreation at [email protected] or the TSC HYSA/Tennessee Soccer Club Office at 615-905-4865. We also send out a survey at the end of the season and would invite your feedback and comments.

HOW CAN I GET MORE INVOLVED?
