MURFREESBORO, TN – Tennessee Soccer Club’s Williamson 2009 Boys Showcase, coached by Jack Theriot, claimed the Tennessee State Soccer Association (TSSA) Fall State Cup Championship on Sunday, defeating Emerald Bayern Munich 2009 Boys 2-1 in the U16 final at Richard Siegel Soccer Complex.
TSC opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a rocket from 30 yards out to take a 1-0 lead. Emerald tied the score in the 37th minute, but TSC responded just after halftime earning a penalty kick and a 2-1 lead that it would take to the final whistle and celebration.
The victory marks Coach Theriot’s first State Cup title since 2011, when he led the TNFC ’93 Girls to the championship.
“Congratulations to all of our teams who participated in the State cup final this past weekend and very special “well done” to Coach Jack Theriot and his 2009 boys Showcase team who won their first state cup championship,” said U15-U19 Boys Director Sandy Pollock.
In total, four TSC teams advanced to their respective championship matches. In addition to the 2009 Williamson Boys Showcase championship, the Williamson 2009 Boys NPL team led by Pollock battled to a 1-1 draw through regulation and fell in heartbreaking fashion in a penalty kick shootout. The Williamson 2014 Boys Showcase was edged in their final match as well as the 2010 Williamson ECNL RL Boys team.
In total, TSC crowned one champion, three finalists, two semi-finalists, and 4 quarterfinalists.
“Overall, we are proud of our performances on the field this fall,” Director of Soccer Stephen Jordan said. “It was brilliant to see Coach Jack and the boys achieve their goal and lift the trophy. We are excited as we move into the next phase of the year as the older girls begin their seasons and look forward to continued successes.”
