Communication is Crucial for Success

For any team or sports organization to run effectively good communication is paramount.

Pre-Academy/Academy

Parents Speak with Coach

Communication Path

  • Wait 24 hours before contacting (a chance to collect thoughts and calm emotions)
  • Be respectful. Please wait for the appropriate time to approach the coach. Before or after practice may be good moments if they are not setting up the session, but please NEVER interrupt a practice. Our coaches try to maximize their instruction time with players and many times, have another practice or commitment immediately following your player’s event.
  • Coaches should communicate at the beginning of the season the best way to communicate with them. (E-mail, text, phone call, in-person meeting)
  • If your concern is not properly or fully addressed, you may then contact the appropriate Age Group/Location Director, as described further below

Players and Parents Speak with Coach Together

Communication Path

  • Wait 24 hours before contacting (a chance to collect thoughts and calm emotions)
  • Be respectful. Please wait for the appropriate time to approach the coach. Before or after practice may be good moments if they are not setting up the session, but please NEVER interrupt a practice.
  • Please encourage your child to show self‐confidence to approach the coach. The first few times you may want to rehearse with your child to help them become more comfortable with the idea. It is common for younger players to be nervous, however, they should never feel afraid of speaking with their coach. The coach’s role is to create a safe environment and to help nurture their love of soccer as well as develop their skills.
  • Coaches should communicate at the beginning of the season the best way to communicate with them. (E-mail, text, phone call, in-person meeting)

U15-U19 Players

Players Speak with Coach

Communication Path
At the older age groups, the players will have gained the skills and experience to begin communicating for themselves. We encourage self-advocacy and want the players to take the initiative, as this is an important step in their preparation for college and life.

We understand that every issue may not be resolved between the player and the coach. If parents still have an issue after the player has met with the coach, the parent may then contact the coach and set up a meeting with the parents, player, and coach present.

Communication Expectations

Respect
As one of the core values at Tennessee Soccer Club, we expect all communication to be handled with sensitivity, positivity, and respect. Questions and issues can most times be resolved with open honest communication. We are all here with the same purpose, to serve the players.

24-Hour Waiting Period
TSC requires a 24-hour waiting period before contacting a coach or the club with a question or a concern. This serves the purpose of calming emotions from the situation and allowing all parties to communicate more effectively.

If the situation involves the safety of the player, please make contact immediately and the 24-hour period does not apply.

48-Hour Response Time
We will always strive to respond to inquiries within a reasonable time period. Our office is generally open from 9 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday, with the exception of holidays and club events. At TSC we have a large staff consisting full-time directors and staff to part-time coaches and staff. We encourage our staff and coaches to respond to inquiries within 48 hours when appropriate.

Communication Pathway

It is TSC’s hope that this communication pathway will allow the club’s membership a clear and appropriate process for voicing their questions and concerns to be addressed in a timely and efficient manner.

With this established pathway, players, parents, and coaches have the opportunity to build an open and trusting partnership while also giving a mechanism for further resolution if needed.
