Tennessee Soccer Club and Project R12 Partner to Bring Soccer to Uganda
Franklin, TN – Tennessee Soccer Club and Williamson County-based Project R12 are partnering to bring the world’s most popular sport to another corner of the world: Namirembe, Uganda.
Located on the banks of Lake Victoria and three hours from the capital city of Entebbe, Namirembe is a forgotten village with no access to clean water or education – and certainly no access to organized sports.
“There’s a lot of idle time in Namirembe, and idle time is dangerous time there,” said Tara Moseley, founder of PR12 and a former Brentwood Soccer Club player who went on to play at the NCAA Division I level. “Young children are left to roam the streets and often fall prey to witch doctors, drug dealers and other nefarious activities. Organized soccer has the ability to change that.”

“When PR12 approached us about a potential partnership, we knew that bringing soccer to Namirembe could create incredible change in the lives of these youth,” said Taylor Johnson, Director of Club Operations & Development at Tennessee Soccer Club. “We know because we see how our TSC players benefit from the mentorship, community, discipline and focus soccer brings to their lives. Assisting PR12 with the incredible work they are doing in Uganda falls right in line with TSC Cares and our commitment to building and strengthening communities through soccer.”
The Namirembe Soccer League will launch in Spring 2020 and provide opportunity for local youth to play soccer on a pitch being built in the middle of the village. The teams will be coached by trusted mentors from PR12’s on-the-ground partner, Mission House, and outfitted with uniforms and cleats through the generous support of Tennessee Soccer Club constituents. Ahead of the tryout season in spring 2020, TSC will collect old uniform and training wear as well as cleats to be provided to these teams.
In addition to the soccer league, PR12 is digging a deep water well, building Namirembe’s first school, constructing safe houses for at-risk and rescued youth, and launching a job training program for single moms and trafficked women.
You can learn more about the partnership and follow the league’s progress through TSC social media platforms and club website, www.tennesseesoccerclub.org, or by visiting the PR12 website at www.projectr12.org.
